The fact that markets are filled with all sorts of goods encourages everyone to purchase a large variety of items. Some of these are essential either because they contribute to our biological survival like food and medicine or because they play an important part in protecting our mental balance like books or CDs.
But, next to such vital things, we find other numerous items which we feel obliged to acquire although they do not have any determining role in our existence. It is the case with fashion clothes, paintings, objects of decoration, jewels and make up products. We can also integrate in the same category the electronic devices such as cameras and mobile phones that equip modern houses. We buy them just because they are available in the market.
All these items do not add much to our basic needs. Yet, all of us are eager to get them provided that we have the means to buy. At first, their production had no other aim than to provide some money to their creators. These unnecessary products are gradually introduced in our life and form important aspect of it . Now, they shape our personality. We want to show to our friends that we also belong to modernity and civilization.
Besides, the new economic world does not give us the possibility to be free when we buy . Every little action we perform has been carefully instilled in our mind since our childhoods that all the commodities we obtain with our money seem indispensable to us. It is with pride that we look at the different things we purchase. There are evidences that we are able to behave successfully in our relationship with the others.
