According to a survey conducted by the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction, Britain's teenagers are among the heaviest drug-users and drinkers in Europe.
The survey, which concerned teenagers aged between 15 and 16, showed that 26% of boys and 29% of girls in Britain had tried drugs of different kinds. The survey also revealed that the country has the highest number of young cocaine users in Europe.
The British government has recently introduced new plans and measures to fight the problem of drug use in the United Kingdom, particularly among young people. The police will be able to give people blood tests for drugs when they arrest them. Drug dealers working near schools or using children to help sell drugs will face severe penalties. ‘‘We will do our best to fight drug addiction among teenagers,’’ a senior British official said.
